Switzerland, known for their innovation in time and mechanism is taking time to Smart Technology. The “TAG Heuer’s Android Move Means Switzerland Is Embracing The Smartwatch” in keeping with its history of time leadership.
“LVMH Watch Group head Jean-Claude Biver is not a man to ignore pop culture and all that is modern even though he made his money running companies that sell traditional, mechanical watches. Today, sitting as the CEO of Swiss watchmaker TAG Heuer, he stands with representatives from Intel and Google announcing the first ever Android Wear-powered Swiss smartwatch. Tech companies who have released smartwatches have been widely criticized for (among other things) creating products that do not feel or look like the timepieces anyone actually wants to wear.” The integration of Silicon Valley and TAG Heuer in partnership with Intel and Google’s Android may change the face of what it means to use a watch.
With the explosion of cell phones the watch industry is more about bling than time. The integration of time to mobile uses is advancing the concept of the time piece to an information accessory. “Arguably one of Android Wear’s most serious challenges the dearth of actually attractive and useful smartwatch devices.” The ability to push tech, accessory, use and functionality is where the watch is heading. “Bringing a smartwatch to market for a mainstream set of consumers is a different challenge than working for a well-funded team of a few people you are sponsoring the efforts (Larry Ellison’s America’s Cup sailing team) or producing a fancier version of an establish product like the cellphone.” It will take ergonomics, Silicon Valley and Fashion to build the good model that will elevate to a better – the next 2.0.
