“How can we begin to change our society when we as individuals are unwilling to embrace the concept of empathy, forgiveness and differences. These elements support the making of healthy relationships and nation building.”
We can look to larger systems as a cure personal ills. The changing of the hearts and minds of people change larger systems. It was the hearts and minds of people that changed slavery, women’s rights, children’ labor laws, disability and more. The changes were complex and over time but small groups fought to make changes that started a wave of larger change. The act of changing systems to be humane start with the capacity for understanding the injustice or inequities of others. The ability to have informed empathy and a consciousness to forgive, as well as embrace beyond one’s self construction to support other’s differences. These elements give way to allow for a better world.
