It is interesting in the age of digital content it is difficult to gain 250 votes within large pool of social connectivity. The ability to engage in a world where content streams rapidly is indeed a conundrum for communication. There is so much content, messages are going into a data pool and plucked off the streaming vine when users are hungry. This does not make for a full diet of ideas when one is eating content from a vast growing smorgasbord, as soon as you decide on a food more is presented. One could starve or become gluttonous in this paradigm.
This is a place I serve in content but when there was a need to capture 250 responses from Facebook, it came to mind is it easier to make a million dollars or gain 250 votes. I contend it is universally complex with all things being equal. The effort to gain the attention within one’s connections on LinkedIn or Facebook, Pinterest, Tumblr, etc is demanding. Now, Oprah Winfrey can score 250 votes within lees than hour and Warren Buffet, can make $1 million as equally fast yet, all things are not equal.
The necessity to achieve 250 Votes is indeed a feat of diligence and would appear easy yet, the flow of information is constant and pervasive to the point that data becomes invisible. The more data and content the less likely one is to ingest – becomes overwhelming to the senses.
Streaming messages, TV, cable, pads, cell phones, tweets, Pins, emails, images, tumbles, friends, search and more is enough to make the average social player blind, death and sometimes mute to the avalanche of content.
In sales it was the rule of thumb to secure 10 sales you needed to approach at least 100 contacts to close. Today, with at least 10 methods to communicate the ration may now be 350-500 to close 10. The circle widens and the work is about numbers. The exponential factorization is vast, wide and deep making messages a valuable commodity.
I wrote this inspired by the need to ask for 250 votes in the Mission Main Street Grant to support sustainability efforts. The grant is supported in collaboration of Google and Chase managed through the Facebook portal.
Sustainability is innocuous to many, not understood but so vital to our plant, businesses and governments. The term is about permanence and survivability yet, gain votes would be easier if a scandal was shared.
Gaining 250 Votes or Million Dollars
The question in today’s economy and drive for social traction by mere numbers is a distraction. As more people enter the social mediated space more content is developed and thus it is more complex to locate data. This numbers game suggests that devising a million dollar strategy is more feasible to overcoming 250 votes.
In reflection of history, Lincoln needed 20 unassailable votes to abolish slavery above full support of his party. Today, with the ability to spread and share messages as fast as one could type 140 characters could this act pass faster or at all under today’s media conditions.
The goal of ascertaining 250 votes has been an invaluable lesson in the last hours of this march in which redundancy and social etiquette are vital choices. I entered this vote considering that one message a day would be enough but the process is a numbers game of ask versus beg.
As I share with my clients, content is important to get out your message and consider the overwhelming knowledge and familiarity of Coke, Pepsi, McDonald’s, Walmart and Ford. These companies continue to market every hour and daily without fail. Today, to get your message out one must thoughtfully overwhelm the system for traction and impact.
Seeking 250 Votes by November 14, midnight EST. The work has begun, not simple, indeed complex but remaining optimistic.
