The Act of Entrepreneurship as Leadership

Entrepreneurs are necessary ingredient for economic development, innovation and sustainability.   The face of an entrepreneur can be captured as a risk adverse, social engineer or profiteering as the method for investing time and sweat to build an enterprise.  The  role of these people are embedded in the structure of our economy born or made to accomplish some task that changes a small or major segment of the world.  The breed of  entrepreneurs rising is shifting as small to big issues persist and arise on the world stage.

As an entrepreneur, many can define this act as being a leader.  Entrepreneurs lead, as well as be leaders but many are great managers. The ability to define and identify your entrepreneurial type is not a judgement but a means to determine what partners and/or team members can aid your organization.

The act of entrepreneurship, I wholeheartedly disagree is a sign of leadership. The act of entrepreneurship can be a sign of greatness or fear yet, risk is embedded in the decision. The becoming of an entrepreneur can be the act of running to or away from leadership to define a space where varied controls can be established.  Entrepreneurs can run toward an innovation or away from a constraint.  The decision can be the hallmark of changing the world as did Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne who founded Apple or the mom-and-pop- store that supports the community. All add to the vitality of a developing ecosystem.

It is important not to commingle leadership and entrepreneurship as indivisible. The power of a smarter entrepreneur is to identify and accept what they are and lack to bring the organization into being. The entrepreneur’s choice can lead to leadership. The decision of being a leader is in the ability to be self-aware of choice to lead.

Today, we need entrepreneurs that can make a social and economic impact on community, region and on the world stage. The commitment starts by accepting the risk, defining the goal and determining the best team that produces a good brain dynamic.

Entrepreneurs role is vital to the sustainability of a nation; therefore, the work of entrepreneurs is to consider their sustainable EQ and model this across their supply chain.  It is never been more important to discuss leadership and entrepreneurship.  In my practice, I share with clients, “just because you created the idea does not mean it is your task to bring it to life. It can be that your role is to guide, build the team or sit back and reap the dividends.”

The goal of  leadership and entrepreneurship is to determine who or what is to lead or be a leader to breed innovation and sustainable change.
