October 11, 2013
Today is the first of many in which we celebrate the “The Day of the Girl“. This day is in honor of girls that’s life experience soon become that of women. When we change the lives of girls the world is made better and sustainable. Consider, that it is girls who grow to be women that raise the children, many by themselves. Women, as leaders, change agents, business professionals and family members.
Consider, still to day that women are paid $0.77 of a $1.00 to their male counterparts. Girls and women remain objectified and will experience some form of threat or maltreatment in their lives.
The Day of the Girl reports, “The U.N. declared October 11 as the International Day of the Girl Child! Its mission is “to help galvanize worldwide enthusiasm for goals to better girls’ lives, providing an opportunity for them to show leadership and reach their full potential.” You can read the United Nations General Assembly Resolution on the International Day of the Girl Child for yourselves!”
Eloquently and simply stated, “One of the most crucial aspects in the movement towards gender equality is action. How else will society change if no one is taking the steps needed for progress?” Without action change is not possible.
There are “11 As-Easy-As-You-Want Actions For Change: a small sampling of combining simple actions with big issues. Feel free to do one or all, and think of these as sources of inspiration for further action. Don’t stop here!”
“Proclaimeth thine Government as thine own: use our toolkit to contact your local government representatives, and have them officially proclaim October 11th as the Day of the Girl in your community.”
We at LANDsds Sustainable Voice News celebrate and honor the Day of the Girl and envision a powerful future to change the ecosystem, world and environment.
