Managing energy and environment is a lead challenge to organizations no matter size or age.  The organizational decision to integrate energy solutions for efficiency can champion innovation and cost savings but more so, start the road to sustainability thinking.  Big Boxers are strolling to energy change but they will soon run to a efficient future. The news of “Walmart Expands Rooftop Solar Initiative at Stores Across Country, Arizona” is one step to considering how to offset the architectural high top stores.

Get Solar  project  news from “Walmart has begun to install solar on its buildings in Arizona to reduce energy consumption and improve its commitment to environmental sustainability.” The big box store can save on energy as it harness the sun to manage the high ceiling complexity.

U.S. Energy Information Administration expects energy consumption to increase steadily for the next 30 years. This projection will lead organizations and leaders to make mental and operational reforms.

“The Glendale Star reported that Walmart, like other retailers such as Walgreens and Ikea, is looking to enhance its renewables score card by installing solar panels above some of its parking spots, creating “stalls” that provide shaded areas for customers to park comfortably.” This act can not produce offsets as the Walmart and Ikea are logistically separate from other stores which means solar is an efficiency.

Chris Schroeder, Senior Manager of Sustainability Communications said, “We set out in 2005 to increase our environmental sustainability as an essential ingredient to our company.  We started construction on the covered parking panels in several Arizona stores as a test because the climate is perfect for it. Pilot project stores are expected to achieve savings over their current utility rates immediately – as soon as the first day of operation.”

The pathway to sustainability is brought about by enabled ecosystem.  The model of sustainability is unique to the traditional business models. The opportunity in sustainability is building collaborative efforts across the supply chain, resources and solutions delivery continuous improvements to net zero results.  The energy changes business to engineer systems that structure and design efficiency elevating platforms and the supply chain.
