The position of China to secure a greener infrastructure is an a political and social position supported by investment. Green is not solely an energy solution but a health decision as well. Nations determining the importance of a robust energy mix inclusive of renewables is an opportunity for sustainable future. Sustainable future maybe imagery but sufficient to organize energy and infrastructural solutions. The news “China to charge more to subsidize green energy” is a step to green commitment.
Eco Business reported, “China will raise tariffs on power to collect subsidies for renewable energy from September 25 in a bid for better quality air, the country’s economic planner said on Friday. The price adjustment will exclude residential and agricultural power, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) said. The NDRC can collect an additional 20 billion yuan (3.24 billion U.S. dollars) annually now, but there has been a shortfall in recent years as renewable energy has been growing quickly.”
“The additional charge on power for clean energy will be 0.015 yuan (0.0024 U.S. cents) per kilowatt-hour from current 0.008 yuan per kilowatt-hour. China has charged a levy on wholesale power to build subsidy funds for renewable energy and the charging standard has increased from 0.001 yuan per kilowatt-hour in 2006 to 0.008 this year.”
The energy development is hand and parcel with expanding economic development which is inclusive of changing demands on resources including food, living standards and social justices. The news of green subsidies with the data on China’s growing obesity problem is related.
China’s growing diabetes problem that is said to include 114 million people and growing. This is 12% of China’s population. The work to pursue energy is to pursue energetic society. New developments in health and energy are reflective of social and economic changes stimulated by economics.
The change in society produces side effects and new demands. Consider the nexuses. Green subsidies in energy must have linkages to reeducation, agriculture and technologies that position smart solutions to mitigate risk on society for sustainability.
