Sustainability is the infusion of art, form and process. We are in the age or renaissance of new design elements stemming from environment, aesthetics, form, materials and ergonomics fusing art, science and technology for  a new day. The illustration and documentation of these effects are surfacing across platforms, industry and technologies. One such event is  “SFC hosts ‘Innovations in Sustainable Furnishings’ seminar” to bring in sustainability into the home furnishings market.

Home Accents Today offering up “The Sustainable Furnishings Council and North Carolina’s Elon University will present a one-day program that charts the future of sustainable design. Leaders from the home furnishings industry and academia will convene Friday, Sept. 20, at Elon University for “Innovations in Sustainable Furnishings: The Road Ahead.”

North Carolina the home of furnishings  is a logistical placement for the viewing and discussing of furnishings.  The event is to highlight the “keynote from Dr. Jonathan Chapman, a professor of sustainable design at University of Brighton‘s School of Art, Design & Media. Chapman’s talk, titled “Emotionally Durable Design,” will draw from his 2005 monograph, Emotionally Durable Design: Objects, Experiences & Empathy, which has been embraced by professional designers at corporations such as Sony Corp. and Samsung.”

The nexus of art, design and furnishing will bring about new structure of works accommodating home construction for efficiency and the inclusion of  environment, spatiality and light for new ways of living and resting.  Sustainable design is the push to change and a new guard on design and deign elements ushering in a new architecture of innovation in the science of material management.
