The projects in big energy are being driven by need for power transfers from older plants requiring decommissioning. The agreement of “E.ON and Siemens team up to ensure energy supply for Evonik” by 2015. The awareness of the global retrofits and taking old plants offline is a necessary trend requiring effective implementation in systems’s engineering that engage in tactical, security and redundancies to capture and sustain long-term power against any condition.
Power Engineering International provided details on Marl Chemical Park, the recipient of the “new combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plant is to be built with Siemens (NYSE: SI) supplying the CCGT”.
The project is staged to manage reductions as the new plant is placed online seamless to manage power load. The “Marl Chemical Park in Germany currently receives electricity and steam from three power plants consisting of a total of five generating units. The oldest of these is unit 3, which in a few years will reach the end of its useful operating life. Unit 3 will be replaced with a new CCGT plant with 60 MW of electric capacity.”
“E.ON (FWB: EOAN) will build the new plant at a central location at Evonik’s production facility (FWB: EVKA); the plant is expected to enter service in 2015. Switching from coal to gas will enable Evonik to reduce its carbon emissions at Marl by about 280,000 metric tons annually.”
The work is complex for seasoned contractors and energy integrators to perform the staging and roll over to upload and place minute systems in pace. The work of seasoned professionals are best served by third party oversight to cross check against tasks, orders to determine the gaps and constraints to full power transition. Teaming is as complex as energy generation when done effectively and transparent. Many downplay the work required to team to produce the results for success.
The work requires technology to manage data streams, human factors analysis for interfacing, cognitive work analysis to deconstruct systems and multidisciplinary approaches to manage the cross connectivity of information from teams, platforms and contractors within the ecosystem of the Siemens and E.ON.
