Again out of the mouths of youth and the integration of educational institutions are powering clean technology solutions and growing endowments. The developments of students is a win-win as they power innovation and universities gain patents to up their research quotient for financial and intellectual leverage. The importance of “Students Invent Water Purification Disc” is key to saving lives as clean water is key to sustainability.
Voice of America touted the “Students at the University of Virginia have developed a new way of purifying water that they say could bring improved water quality for millions in the developing world. It’s called a Madi Drop. The word “madi” means water in Tshivenda, a language of Limpopo Province in South Africa.”
The process seems simple yet the technology in its development is complex. The madi “when dropped in water, silver ions, which are atoms that have an electrical charge released to purify the water. The students have created the MadiDrop – a ceramic disc infused with silver” Field testing begins this month in South Africa.

The collaboration and advancement of partnerships can begin growth in new green and clean technologies that are supportive infrastructural solutions enhancing on the ground implementation that the big company models are stinted by risk, reward and returns. Universities are pushing technologies out and producing patents that in the long-term will change the model of school to work.
